Job Title: Health Aide

 

Reports to: Health Aide Supervisor, Director of Student Serives & Well Being
Contract Length: Full Time – 190 Days
FLSA Status: Exempt

7 hours a day
Salary – $36,893

General Summary: The Health Aide provides health services to students, families, and staff using the application of complex knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. As the health resource for our school district and community, services provided by Health Aides allow all students, including students with complex chronic health needs, to learn and achieve their greatest potential.

 

Task Rating Job Duties
40% Health & Vision Services

  • Provide healthcare to students with acute and chronic health problems.
  • Complete vision screenings on all students adhering with state and pupil services regulations.
  • Administer medication as needed per district policy.
20% Recordkeeping

  • Maintain records for all student medications and clinic visits.
  • Review immunization records for all incoming students and maintain current records for existing students.
  • Screening, tracing, monitoring infectious diseases.
  • Maintains computerized school health records and updates as necessary.
  • Complete and submit mandated immunization summary to ODH by deadline each school year.
  • Maintain medication inventory log.
10% Training & Education

  • Provide training of other school staff on appropriate health and safety processes related to health, including emergency preparedness.
20% Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with families, staff, and students to address and devise plans for student health care.
  • Collaborate with public health partners for screenings, referrals, and follow up for infectious disease surveillance.
  • Provide support for students and families by connecting them with available community agencies and resources.
10% Compliance

  • Maintain confidentiality when handling student information in compliance with FERPA/HIPPA.
  • Complete and provide the vision screening summary to ODH by the end of the school year.
  • Complete and provide immunization report to ODH by October 15.
Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

There is no direct or indirect supervision of other employees within this position.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license, LPN (with medication certification).
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to receive within 3 months of hire
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of work-related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and BCII clearance.
  • Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office software
  • Professional tact, diplomacy, and presentation with administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience or familiarity with working with school-aged children or in a school setting.

 

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Other Characteristics

 

Knowledge:

  • English Language: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Psychology: Knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Customer and Personal Service: Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Medicine: Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventative health-care measures.
  • Administrative: Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and workplace terminology.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of principals and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

Work Type Classification:

 

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

 

Work Environment and Hazards:

This work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to wear protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.

 

Mental Demands:

Mental demands for this position include concentration, interpretive skills, understanding verbal instructions, differentiating, reading, communicating (verbal/written), reasoning skills, analyzing, memorizing, coordinating, and instructing.
